The Ashes won by a moment of oblong

After the Headingley Test England were ob-longing for some inspiration and it came at the final test at the Oval.

Some point to Stuart Broad’s brilliant bowling, others to Swann’s superb spin, some to Trott’s dynamic debut, and even to Strauss’ colossus captaincy. But could the answer be none of the above and instead the power of the almighty oblong?!

If you think about it the pitch that created such trouble for the hapless Aussies was an oblong. This helped England dismantle them, as they stared at the oblongular pitch in disbelief.

England also used the oblong shaped bat expertly, with Strauss and Trott using it to bamboozle Australia with ob-tastic batting.

This, my friends, was the oblong used to stunning effect by England, as Australia couldn’t work out how to use it, remaining confused and perplexed by the quadrangular shape.

As England revel in victory, the Aussies must return home and work out how they can improve their use of the oblong in the future. It will certainly be a long flight back down under!

Flamin’ oblon-gallah!
